The future of blueberries presents a challenge that goes beyond increasing production: delivering consistent quality while maintaining farm profitability. This was one of the central themes of the Blueberry World Forum & Cocktail, organised by the International Blueberry Organization (IBO) during Fruit Attraction.
During the event, Cort Brazelton, co-owner and board member of Fall Creek, explained that the sector’s next phase will be shaped by its ability to consistently meet consumer expectations. This perspective places decisions about production systems at the heart of the discussion.
Against this backdrop, the range of specialisms within the AgritechMurcia Ecosystem enables an integrated approach to crop production. The group brings together expertise in areas such as genetics, biotechnology, irrigation, crop nutrition, greenhouses and agricultural production technology, offering solutions adapted to different growing conditions.
The connection with the challenges facing blueberry production lies in how these capabilities work together. Plant material selection, facility design, water management, fertilisation and field operations are all part of the same project. Coordinating them allows technology to be introduced according to the needs of each farm.
This is the contribution that the AgritechMur industrial group can bring to the international dialogue: a single point of contact combining complementary specialisms to tailor the solutions required and deliver comprehensive agricultural projects, from engineering to technical support. This approach supports both the establishment of new facilities and improvements to existing farms.
Peru: a meeting point in 2027
The connection with Peru takes on particular significance as the country prepares to host the next IBO Summit, scheduled for November 2027. The event will bring together the international blueberry community to exchange experiences and address the industry’s challenges. Members of AgritechMurcia are also expected to attend.
Together, these developments provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships with growers, businesses and institutions, and to share internationally the expertise offered by the industrial group’s various specialisms in the Region of Murcia, Spain.
