News

AgritechMurcia hosted a delegation of water management experts from Uzbekistan, who visited the region to explore firsthand the innovations in water infrastructure planning, the significance of agriculture, and Murcia’s agricultural evolution.

During their visit, the delegation engaged in several meetings with representatives from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation. These discussions focused on how Murcia effectively manages its water resources in times of scarcity, emphasizing the crucial role of advanced technology in this process. AgritechMurcia showcased how its business ecosystem has significantly contributed to the modernization of irrigation systems, helping optimize water usage and ensuring agricultural sustainability.

The Murcian Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Development (IMIDA) presented a research project highlighting the importance of agriculture in the region and demonstrating Murcia’s progress in agricultural data. This presentation underscored how innovation and agricultural production continue to position Murcia as an international leader.

The delegation also had the opportunity to visit IMIDA’s experimental farm, where they were introduced to the development of new peach varieties. These innovations have not only improved the quality of the fruits but have also optimized production processes and promoted agricultural sustainability.

Another highlight of the visit was the wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) at the Miraflores Irrigators Community. Here, the delegation observed how efficient water management and resource reuse are crucial for maintaining effective irrigation, essential for the sustainability of Murcia’s agricultural lands.

Finally, during their tour of the Ritec farm, a member of AgritechMurcia, they witnessed how advanced technology has transformed rocky and poor-quality soils into highly productive lands. Despite the challenges, this farm has thrived thanks to efficient irrigation systems that maximize water use, demonstrating the positive impact of innovation in agriculture.

The visit concluded with a live demonstration of how an irrigators’ community manages its infrastructure to optimize water use and improve water efficiency in agricultural plots. This exchange of experiences and knowledge has strengthened the cooperation between Murcia and Uzbekistan, underscoring their shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
