Multi-purpose agricultural machinery for simultaneous work on different types of crops

After 4 years of research our partner ID David has developed a prototype machine for diversified crop management as part of the Diverfarming project

Increasing productivity and sustainability through crop diversification and input reduction is the aim of the European Diverfarming project. AgritechMur‘s partner, Industrias David, is participating in the project with the design of a prototype of multifunctional agricultural machinery that allows several simultaneous tasks in different types of crops.  

The machinery designed consists of a multi-purpose implement that can be used to carry out various tasks on different crops, meeting the objectives of reducing time, costs, soil erosion and the use of chemical products. This is due to the possibility of using a single implement for different tasks (sowing, mechanical weeding, soil work), which reduces the number of tractor passes.

Diverfarming

The chassis has a state-of-the-art hydraulic system that allows a second implement to be mounted so that two or three jobs can be carried out in a single pass. This tandem design will allow high versatility, giving the option to combine its use with other equipment such as power harrows with seeders, cultivator or ID ROLL . For example, its use in combination with the inter-tiller gives very good results for removing the soil immediately after the blade, as well as being able to remove the small remains of grass that may be left next to the trunk.

The prototype was recently presented at a conference where the machine was tested both on its own and in combination with a seed drill, cultivator and ID ROLL for mechanical weeding for road maintenance.

Diverfarming project

The new machine is part of Diverfarming, a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme, within the challenge of “Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine, maritime and inland water research and bioeconomy”. The Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Cebas-Csic, also members of the AgritechMur technology ecosystem, are taking part, together with other universities, knowledge centres and European companies.
