Water shortages are intensifying as a result of climate change, affecting the sustainability of irrigated agriculture in many regions, such as in south-eastern Spain, where this scenario threatens the socio-economic development achieved.
Innovative initiatives are needed to foster the resilience of irrigated agriculture in the face of the progressive depletion of hydrological systems. Thus, the use of non-conventional water resources is sought: reuse of regenerated water and desalination of sea water.
The Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the University of Murcia are participating. The project is financed by the State Programme for Research, Development and Innovation Oriented to the Challenges of Society – 2017 – Operational Programme for Intelligent Growth 2014-2020
