Juan Azcue, S.A.’s VITTA AI project, a company belonging to the AgritechMurcia group, stands out for optimizing groundwater extraction and improving energy efficiency, addressing the needs of the Murcia region.
One of the greatest environmental challenges facing southeastern Spain has placed the Murcia-based company Juan Azcue, S.A. among the winners of the Revoluciona Awards, thanks to its application of artificial intelligence for sustainable water extraction. The awards, promoted by BBVA and organized by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Valencia, are celebrating their fifth edition this year.
AgritechMurcia continues to strengthen the Region of Murcia’s position as a benchmark for agricultural innovation, water efficiency, and technology applied to the major challenges facing the agri-food sector. In this context, the recognition awarded to the VITTA AI project, developed by the Murcia-based company Juan Azcue, S.A., at the Revoluciona Awards reinforces the regional ecosystem’s ability to generate advanced solutions to one of southeastern Spain’s greatest challenges: the efficient and sustainable management of water.

The jury particularly highlighted the company’s ability to respond to a genuine regional need, noting that the project helps meet customers’ water management expectations and requirements through a preventive approach focused on environmental protection by controlling and reducing water and energy consumption.
Founded in 1963 and headquartered in Murcia, Juan Azcue has accumulated more than six decades of experience in the supply, installation, and maintenance of hydraulic systems for groundwater extraction. Its technical expertise and innovative capacity have enabled the development of VITTA, an electric submersible pump designed to achieve the highest levels of energy efficiency in groundwater pumping installations. This achievement is built upon two equally important pillars.
The first pillar is hydraulic engineering, embodied in the VITTA pumps, which have been developed to deliver outstanding hydraulic performance and high energy efficiency even under particularly demanding operating conditions. The second pillar is VITTA AI, an intelligent assistant that continuously analyzes the system’s performance to optimize operation, anticipate maintenance requirements, and recommend improvements.
Both VITTA and VITTA AI represent innovative developments with significant competitive advantages on their own. However, it is their integration into a single technological solution that makes the project truly disruptive.
Innovation is particularly significant in the Region of Murcia, one of Europe’s areas experiencing the highest levels of water stress, where irrigated agriculture is one of the region’s main economic drivers. In this context, solutions such as VITTA AI contribute to a more efficient use of water resources while supporting a more sustainable production model.
The Revoluciona Awards annually recognize small and medium-sized enterprises that stand out for integrating innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability into their business models.
José Manuel Mieres, BBVA Regional Director for Eastern Spain, stated: “With the Revoluciona Awards, we aim to give visibility to companies that are transforming their sectors through innovation. Cases such as Juan Azcue demonstrate that talent, technology, and sustainability can become a genuine competitive advantage for our SMEs.”
For his part, Toni Bernal, CEO of Juan Azcue, commented: “Receiving the Revoluciona Award is a tremendous source of pride for the entire Juan Azcue team. This recognition strengthens our conviction that combining high-performance hydraulic engineering with artificial intelligence represents a new way of understanding water extraction—more efficient, more sustainable, and delivering greater value to our customers.”
Through this recognition, the Revoluciona Awards jury sought to highlight Juan Azcue’s commitment to developing new technologies capable of improving business competitiveness while advancing toward more efficient and responsible water management, reinforcing the role of innovation as a key tool for addressing some of the major challenges of the future.
