The Murcian agro-technological ecosystem actively participated in the Economic Forum “Building Investment, Trade and Business Cooperation Opportunities with the Region of Murcia”, an institutional and business meeting aimed at promoting new opportunities for investment, trade and cooperation between both regions.

Murcia, 29 June 2026. AgritechMurcia played a prominent role in the Economic Forum “Building Investment, Trade and Business Cooperation Opportunities with the Region of Murcia”, organised by the Representation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Spain. The event took place on 29 June at the Murcia Science Park and brought together institutional and business representatives from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the Region of Murcia.

The forum was attended by Luis Alberto Marín González, Regional Minister for Business and Trade of the Region of Murcia; Dr. Mohammed Shukri, President of the Investment Board of the Kurdistan Regional Government; Darawan Haji Hamid, Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Spain; a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Region of Murcia; as well as directors and representatives of 65 Spanish companies and 30 companies from the Kurdistan Region.

The event formed part of the process of strengthening economic and commercial relations between the two territories. The forum addressed opportunities for collaboration in strategic sectors such as agri-food, industry, trade, logistics, energy, pharmaceuticals and advanced services.

The organisation of this Forum followed several months of contacts between the Representation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Spain and INFO Murcia, and more specifically, stemmed from the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last year between the Kurdistan Office in Spain and AgritechMurcia, which is considered a key foundation for promoting this Economic Forum and opening up new avenues of cooperation between both territories.

In this context, AgritechMurcia was present as one of the key players in the regional ecosystem linked to agricultural technology, innovation applied to the field and the transfer of technical knowledge. Its participation highlighted the Region of Murcia’s capacity to provide agricultural solutions adapted to territories facing common challenges, especially in areas such as efficient water management, advanced irrigation, fertigation, protected agriculture, digitalisation, fruit and vegetable production and technical training.

The forum programme included a specific panel on economic and technological cooperation, featuring representatives of the organisations that signed the MOU: Mr. Darawan Haji Hamid, Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Spain; Sergio Montesinos, Director of the AgritechMur industrial group; Mr. Juan José Alarcón, Institutional Delegate of CEBAS-CSIC; Mr. Andrés Antonio Martínez Bastida, Director of IMIDA; and Ms. Elena García Cartagena, Coordinator of the public-private AgritechMurcia project at INFO Murcia.

AgritechMurcia’s participation is particularly relevant due to the interest expressed by the Kurdistan Region in establishing lines of cooperation with Murcian companies in the agricultural sector. This connects directly with the experience accumulated by the Region of Murcia in intensive, efficient and technologically advanced agriculture, especially in environments marked by water scarcity and the need to optimise productivity without compromising sustainability.

AgritechMurcia underlines the importance of this type of meeting in consolidating the international projection of the regional agri-technological ecosystem and strengthening Murcia’s role as a territory specialised in advanced solutions for agriculture. To give continuity to this initiative, a direct mission to Kurdistan is planned before the end of the year, in order to gain first-hand knowledge of the agricultural reality and outlook of this important region of Iraq.
