The Region of Murcia welcomed this week an institutional delegation from the Ukrainian region of Sumy. The first of the two working days held in our region focused on showcasing the technological capacity, talent and strength of the Region of Murcia in the agri-food sector.
The programme, jointly organised by the Institute of Development, IMIDA and the AgritechMur industrial group, with the support of the Directorate General for External Action and Cooperation, highlighted AgritechMurcia’s approach as a platform integrating knowledge, innovation and execution capacity. It connects applied technology, transfer processes and on-the-ground solutions to address real challenges in the agri-food sector.
AgritechMurcia: research, transfer and projects
The first part of the day took place at IMIDA, an entity integrated within the regional AgritechMurcia ecosystem. It began with a presentation of the regional agri-food framework and the potential offered by the public-private platform, followed by an exchange on applied research lines, technology transfer and ongoing projects.
This first block aimed to demonstrate how the regional ecosystem can act as a benchmark environment to validate solutions, adapt them to real conditions and scale technology with a direct impact on productivity, efficiency and sustainability.
Applied field technology: citrus, efficiency and irrigation communities
Building on this framework, the delegation had the opportunity to see first-hand several examples of solutions implemented by the AgritechMurcia ecosystem, such as improving productivity in dry citrus and fruit-growing areas; energy optimisation and renewable generation in Irrigation Communities; and 4.0 innovation for more precise and sustainable decision-making in agricultural holdings.
This brief tour of the regional reality helped demonstrate AgritechMurcia’s differential value: not only technological capability, but also real project experience, public-private collaboration and a comprehensive vision to address challenges such as water, energy, productivity and digitalisation (4.0).
Signing of an MOU with a forward-looking vision
One of the institutional milestones of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between AgritechMur (industrial group) and Sumy National Agrarian University, with the aim of opening a future-oriented framework for exploring joint projects, technical cooperation and knowledge transfer.
A symbolic gesture on a particularly meaningful date
The signing took place on a particularly significant day: four years since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. In this context, the meeting gained added value as a gesture of cooperation and future-building through agriculture. The delegation attended wearing their traditional shirts, a detail full of identity and dignity that reminded us that, even in the most difficult times, culture and the bond with the land remain a meeting point. From AgritechMurcia, it was an honour to accompany them and continue building bridges of cooperation through agriculture.
